W inner of this year’s Fujifilm-sponsored
Completed Short Film Award was David Cairns’ Cry For Bobo, a comic tale
of clowns and crime, written and directed by David for Scottish Screen’s Tartan Shorts.
The occasion was the TAPS annual Writer of the Year Awards ceremony held at BAFTA in December. In addition to the Bronze award, Cairns also received a cash award from the Peggy Ramsay
Foundation, a year’s membership of BAFTA and the Writer’s Guild of Great Britain plus ten rolls of Fujifilm stock for his next project.

McCormack
received a runner’s
up certificate and
cash prize for her
Mother Me Daughter, made for HTV’s Western Lights.
The Drama Award went to Simon Warne, the only London-based winner last year, for Arrested Development, a radio script which was transmitted on R4 earlier in the year.
Diane McInerney from Liverpool won the Shorts Category for Canned Man while the runner-up was Welsh- born Tina Glynn whose Fairwater Fanny – The Diaries was picked up for production this year by BBC Wales.
The awards were presented by writer and TAPS patron Maurice Gran who noted, “it’s encouraging to see such a wealth of talent from around the country.”
TAPS executive director Jill James paid tribute to all those who had con- tributed to what had been a bumper year – 32 writers showcased, 14 com- pleted films screened and 120 writers given significant workshop training. ■

C inematographer Chris Doyle HKSC (In The Mood For Love) , who last worked with Vince Vaughn on the remake of Psycho, was re-united with the
American actor and Fuji on the recent- ly released freewheeling gangster com- edy, Made.
This time round, Vaughn was dou- bling as producer in tandem with his friend, writer-director and co-star Jon
Favreau, in a tale which was shot in New York and Los Angeles. It also fea- tures Peter Falk, Famke Janssen and Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs.
It was first time as director for Favreau, who explained: “Making movies is a team effort and I think too much is pinned on the director. This film is very collaborative. I relied heavily on Chris. He has a lot of great instincts.” ■
