n the late 1940s, Bert Easey, Head of Ithe Camera Department at
Pinewood, approached the leading cinematographers of the day with the idea of forming The British
Society of Cinematographers.
The Society was officially formed in 1949 and has continued its close ties with Pinewood.
Having lost the elegant clubroom kindly provided by Denis Carrigan at Shepperton following the refurbishment of the Orangery, the British Society of Cinematographers returned home to Pinewood and acquired the rental of the North Lodge for their clubhouse in 2005.
Pinewood marked this reunion by dedicating two corridors of the administration building to the BSC - where its Honour Boards hang along- side photographs of its members and their crews at work, many of which appear in the BSC publication Out- standing Stills that was put together by the late Alex Thomson, BSC.
On February 18, Sue Gibson BSC President unveiled a plaque commem- orating the 60th Anniversary of the British Society of Cinematographers, which is now sited within this corridor.
