dapted by Moira Buffini from APosy Simmonds’ graphic novel
and Saturday Guardian strip, Tamara Drewe is a modern-day take on the Hardy classic, Far
From The Madding Crowd – a story of love and lust in a rural idyll.
Gemma Arterton will play Tamara, the ultimate modern girl returning to her country home – and her past. Once a shy, ugly teenager, she reinvents herself as a smoldering femme fatale, kicking up a storm of envy, lust and gossip wherever she goes.
According to director Stephen Frears: “I’ve loved Posy Simmonds’ work for a longtime. I’ve got a tremendous cast and crew. Tamara Drewe is a terrific story. Fingers crossed, we can do it justice.”
Co-starring Dominic Cooper, Roger Allam, Luke Evans, Bill Camp and Tamsin Greig, the film is being originated on 35mm Fujicolor ETERNA 400T 8583, ETERNA 250D 8563 and Reala 500D 8592 by Ben Davis BSC.
It was filmed on location in the UK and at Pinewood Studios.
