FESTIVALS & EVENTS
osemary Sutcliff’s classic Roman Radventure first published in
1954 has been turned into a film for the first time by producer Duncan Kenworthy and director
Kevin Macdonald.
Previously made as a six-part BBC
serial more than 30 years ago,
The Eagle Of The Ninth now co-stars Channing Tatum, Jamie Bell, Donald Sutherland and Mark Strong.
Set in 2nd Century Britain, it tells the story of a dangerous quest to
discover the truth behind the unexplained disappearance of the entire Ninth Legion in the mountains of the Scotland 20 years earlier.
Filmed entirely on location in Hungary and Scotland, the film is partially originated on Fujicolor REALA 500D 8592 by last year’s Oscar and BAFTA winner Anthony Dod Mantle BSC DFF.

INPRODUCTION/POST-PRODUCTION
ast month (Feb), BAFTA Lstaged a magnificent
tribute to celebrate the craftsmanship of Douglas Slocombe OBE
BSC. Either in person or on
film, some of the world’s
leading film industry figures - from Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford to Vanessa Redgrave and costume designer Anthony Powell - lined up to sing the praises of Slocombe, who observed the proceedings with typical
modesty in the Princess Anne Theatre at 195 Piccadilly.
Slocombe is an astonishing 97 which reminded us how many other great British nonagenerian cameramen are also still with us including
Ossie Morris BSC, 94, Gil Taylor BSC, 95, Chris Challis BSC, 90, David Harcourt, Associate BSC, 94, Ronald Neame CBE BSC, 98, and Wolfgang Suschitzky, 97.
