Hearts In Atlantis, the latest “We met and connect-
adaptation of a Stephen King bestseller, is dedicated to the memory of the Polish cinematographer Piotr
Sobocinski who died at 43 soon after completing the film.
Partly originated on Fuji, this 1960-set story of friendship and “coming-of-age”, stars Anthony Hopkins, Hope Davis and youngster Anton Yelchin.
To give the film the signature nos- talgic look he was after, director Scott (Shine, Snow Falling On Cedars) Hicks enlisted Sobocinski whose credits included Marvin’s Room, Ransom and Three Colours: Red, for which he was Oscar-nominated.
South West Nine, photographed
on Fuji by Graham Fowler,
received no fewer than five T nominations – including Best
Film, Best Debut Director
(Richard Parry) and Best Achievement
In Production – at this year’s British Independent Film Awards. It won for
Best Music (Dave Pearce). ■
he winner of the Best Film at the Greenwich Film Festival this year was Hannah Gal for Breathe, which also won Best Score. Written and directed by
ed on a very immediate level,” Hicks recalled. “Piotr understood that an
enormous element of the story was going to be told visually, and that
there were layers that I wanted to add to what was already a wonderful
story which would deepen the emotional impact for people. So
we worked very closely together.”
The film will be released here early next year. ■
