4.Artchitecture and Engineering in the Rattanakosin Era
The building of the Royal Grand Palace of Bangkok in 1810 is only the beginning of Thai civilization. Over the course of 235 years, Thai buildings has been transforming from the basic to the complex and compound Rattanakosin Art with the European architect. For example, Wat Baworn Nives was built during King Rama II as his personal chapel. His eldest son, Prince Mongkut (Later King Rama IV), took a vowel as a monk and presided there for 17 years. Prince Mongkut rst stay in a simple wood Bun- galow. When King Rama III succeeded to the throne, he built two stories building in the Chinese Style Architecture for his brother the Prince. After Prince Mongkut succeeded to the throne as King Rama IV, the building was extended as the European Courtyard. He named it the Diamond Compound (Tamnak Petch.) The compound underwent several modi cations until King Rama XI. It has been using as the Royal Resident for the Royal Family, who are in the monkhood. This is just one of the hundreds of the stories that can be told, taught, and learned.
5.Contemporary and Applied Art in the Rattanakosin Era
From 1950’s onward, Bangkok has grown its awareness of public space, art, and cultural community as an integral part of its metropolitan. Contemporary arts are the re ection of the present and current affairs of everyday life. Scenes like impressionist drawing of rice elds, wild animals, rare owers, and even Still Objects are dissipating through time. They are replaced by the skyline of Bangkok, Geometric Expres- sion of Thai Culture, and digital arts, etc. Whichever art form, age, or subject, PRACOT will follow the contemporary artists to save these snapshot pictures of the Art Landscape.
Applied Art will be handled differently. Media such as advertising, television, im, fabric, computer graphic will be categorized and led for reference. They are vital for the future scholars, researchers, and students to work in art and culture related industries.
