PROJECT PURPOSES
The core idea of preservation is to make the object available and accessible for the society and the people by replicating the original object on the chosen media. For example, the government agency preservation idea is to copy the master art works on the paper, photograph, or at best, video. Media as paper, photograph, or video offers limited advantage. Their attributes do not involve dissemination objective. The Preservation of Rattanako- sin Art & Culture of Thailand Project (PRACOT) by the Ohm Foundation inculcates public education, experience enhancement, and creative economy into its objectives. They are as follows;
1.Create an Open Source Art on Website.
The preservation method by PRACOT needs a home base, website. It’s a door to connect with the project database, where PRACOT will store the electronically drawn Thai Classical Art. Any user can browse over 200 categories of Thai Classical Drawing. He/she can explore even more options to see the evolution and application of each category. To download it, however, one must become a member. Membership is free-of-charge.
Open Source Art on Website is now becoming a trend in preserving art. The City of Philadelphia, for ex- ample, organized for Mural Arts program. It composes of 13 projects of Open Source revealing the aspect of Philadelphia’s unique urban identity. The project addresses a variety of topics, including immigration, recycling, mass incarceration, environment, etc. For more information on the project follow this link; http:// opensource.muralarts.org/about. The U.S. National Gallery of Art/NGA image has already had 45,000 open access of the NGA repository collection (https://images.nga.gov/en/page/show_home_page.html.) Similar projects are found in Europe; such as, the Arts Council England for Thinking Digital (http://www. artscouncil.org.uk). These are numerous examples from hundreds of organizations that are supporting
2.Create a participatory process in the Open Source Creation.
Open Source aims to disseminate knowledge to the public. Knowledge is and should be a participation process, contributed by the Cored Artists. PRACOT will rely on the Ministry of Culture’s lists of registered artists to launch the basic Thai Classical Arts. They will be the steering voice to de ne the scope of knowl- edge and the objects that will prompt the PRACOT project. A seminar of Ministry of Culture’s registered artists will be held in March 2018 to take the rst step to preserving Thai Classical Art Knowledge, hosted by the Ministry of Culture of Thailand.
Beside the artists, the PRACOT will hold the second seminar of related industry in June 2018. This seminar is vital for de ning the market’s wants and needs. Participants will come from various sectors; governmental, related creative industries, scholars of arts, and NGO’s. The purpose of the market need identi cation is bene cial prima facie, but it’s also a form of public relation. It’ll raise an awareness of the
upcoming PRACOT project, as well as a call for market interaction with the project. 9
