Traditional method of folding U.S. flag
1. During militaryfunerals,theflag is folded immediatelyattheconclusion ofchaplain's service.
2. The two pallbearers remove the flag from the casket, hold it taut and fold the lower striped section of
the flag over the blue field.
3. The folded edge is folded overto meettheopen edge.
4. Atriangularfold isstarted by bringing the striped cornerofthefolded edgetotheopen edge.
5. The outer point is turned Inward, parallel with the open edge, to form a second triangle.
6. Thetriangularfolding continues until theentire length oftheflag is folded.When completely folded,
only the blue field should be visible, and it should be folded in the triangular shape of a cocked hat.
