                Praise be to Allah, the Almighty God.





                Dear Distinguished Speakers and Participants,


                Welcome  to  Universitas  Andalas,  and  to  the  first  International  Conference  on

                Gender, Culture, and Society held by Pusat Studi Gender, Anak, dan Keluarga


                (The  Center  of  Gender,  Child,  and  Family  Studies)  of  Universitas  Andalas  in


                collaboration  with  Asosiasi  Pusat  Studi  Wanita,  Gender,  dan  Anak  Indonesia

                (Association for the Center of Gender, Child, and Family Studies in Indonesia).





                This  year  the  Center  of  Gender,  Children,  and  Family  Studies  Universitas


                Andalas  aims  to  promote  new  insights  and  discussion  about  the  current

                global  perspectives,  considering  the  differences  in  academic  and  subject


                fields’  approaches  across  time,  countries,  and  economic  sectors,  with  its

                implications  and  to  improve  and  share  the  scientific  knowledge  on  gender


                research.              The         main          topic          of     the        conference                  is:    “Responding                     to      evolving


                challenges                  toward             achieving                gender             equality              and         social         inclusion.”               This

                conference                    will        present              speakers                from           various             countries,                like        United


                Kingdom,  Japan,  Malay,  Australia,  Canada,  USA,  and  Indonesia,  which  also

                aims  to  provide  an  opportunity  for  discussion  and  to  enhance  professional


                networking in various related to gender and social inclusion.





                This  conference  is  meant  to  open  our  horizon  that  the  issue  of  gender  and

                social  inclusion  may  be  viewed  from  various  disciplines  and  perspectives.


                Many  scholars,  academics,  researchers,  students,  policymakers,  observers  of


                gender  issues  from  national  and  international  development  institutions  are

                sitting together at ICGCS-2021 to discuss these issues.





                On        behalf           of     the        committee,                   I   would            like       to     express             my        gratitude               and


                appreciation  to  all  of  those  who  supported  our  conference:  The  Rector  of

                Universitas  Andalas,  the    Association  for  the  Center  of  Gender,  Child,  and


                Family             Studies              in      Indonesia,                 our         honorable                  keynote,               plenary,              parallel

                speakers, all of the reviewers, and all of the participants.






                I hope that you have a pleasant and fruitful discussion during the conference,

                new insights on gender studies and social inclusion, and broader networking


                in these areas.
