ABSTRACT BOOK
By Prof. Emy Susanti
Greetings to all speakers and participants of this Conference.
It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the International Conference On
Gender, Culture and Society (ICGCS) that be held on August 30-31, 2021. I am
very grateful that in this year Indonesian Association of Centers for Women,
Gender and Child Studies - Asosiasi Pusat Studi Wanita, Gender dan Anak
Indonesia (ASWGI) (ASWGI) with the Center for Gender, Children and Family
Development Studies (PPGAK) Andalas University collaborate to hold an
International Conference. The theme of this Conference: ‘Responding To
Evolving Challenges Towards Achieving Gender Equality And Social Inclusion’ is
very important related directly to point 5 within the Sustainable Development
Goals (SDGs) - the issue of gender equality in all aspects of life.
In addition, the theme 'Responding to Evolving Challenges towards Achieving
Gender Equality And Social Inclusion' also relates to the Fourth-wave feminist
movement which is characterized by a focus on the gendered norms, gendered
culture and marginalization of women in society and seeks greater gender
equality. Fourth-wave feminist movement advocates for greater representation
of the marginalized groups in politics and business, and argue that society
would be more equitable if policies and practices incorporated the perspectives
of all people. This conference is held virtually with the aim of becoming a
meeting place for academics, researchers, students, policy makers, observers of
gender issues as well as national and international development institutions in
an effort to prepare steps to face the growing challenges of gender equality and
social inclusion.
This Conference - ICGCS 2021 - presents speakers from 7 countries, namely
Japan, Australia, USA, Canada, Malaysia, the UK, and Indonesia. The participants
come from the Centers for Women and Gender Studies at Universities and
Institutions. This Conference will offer rich discourses and various narratives and
knowledge on gender, and social inclusion issues with the Sustainable
Development Goals - SDGs and Fourth Wave Feminism framework, particularly
in the new norm situation. We hope that there will be a mutual agreement in
the context of Responding To Evolving Challenges Towards Achieving Gender
Equality And Social Inclusion.
I sincerely hope everyone will enjoy the discussion and the networking sphere
created by this conference.
Best Regard,
Prof. Emy Susanti
