Dec 13 & 27 ~ 2nd & 4th Thursday Trail Crew ~ Sugarloaf State Park - No experience necessary – we have tools and trained crew leaders with tasks for all strengths and sizes of volunteers. We will provide parking passes, tools and Clif bars with beverages and snacks afterwards. Bring gloves, a hat and water that you can take with you while working, and wear long pants, boots or hiking shoes and sunscreen. In order to make sure we have enough tools and after-work beverages reply to trailscouncil@sonic.net if you plan to attend. Those under 18 years old must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Redwood Empire Food Bank Volunteers - Every month we rely on their generous support, which would otherwise require the work of 45 full-time staff members. Spend a two-hour shift in the REFB warehouse.
Provide support at an REFB benefit event or at one of our many food distribution sites. Children between the ages of 12 and 13 are welcome to volunteer as long as they are accompanied by an adult at all times. Children 14 years of age and older can volunteer independently. Volunteers in our Kitchen Collective must be at least 15 years old. First time volunteers can drop-in to the REFB for a 30-minute New Volunteer Orientation to learn more about various volunteer positions. Orientations are held Mon-Fri at 9a and 1p at 3990 Brickway Boulevard in Santa Rosa. Orientations can also be arranged by appointment, Mon-Thur, at 4p.   Dec 7 ~ Native Plant Garden Volunteer Day - Laguna Foundation. First Friday of every month Share your passion for pollinators by helping our native plant garden thrive! Volunteers are essential in beautifying our site. Activities include planting, weeding, spreading wood chips, and general site cleanup. The native plant landscape includes wildflowers, grasses, sedges, trees, forbes and herbaceous plants.
The site also includes beautiful views, spots to have a picnic, a living willow tunnel in the Children’s Playscape, a bridge over a swale, a pond with wetland plants and an observation deck. No experience necessary, just a willingness to learn about native plants. Training and tools will be provided, plus abundant and hearty snacks! Wear clothes and shoes that can get dirty. RSVP only if you are planning on bringing a group of 5 or more people so that we can have enough supplies. Only heavy rain cancels. Volunteer Programs: Land StewardsJoin a dynamic and dedicated stewardship work crew to assist with property maintenance and natural resource management activities including invasive plant removal, erosion control, road maintenance, and trail work.
Preserve Partners: Enroll your middle or high school class in this service- learning program that teaches about the importance of conserving a particular habitat type (vernal pool, oak woodland, grassland or coastal prairie, riparian) through hands-on land stewardship and citizen science projects at “adopted” open space preserves. Volunteer Patrol: Help us be the “eyes and ears” of spectacular Sonoma County Open Space Preserves that are otherwise closed to the public by hiking around
to observe and report on conditions of trails, waterways, vegetation, and access. Current patrollers, after your hike please submit a report using our Volunteer Patrol Report Card.
Volunteer Easement Monitors: Help us monitor privately-owned District- protected properties as part of our easement monitoring program. Jack London and Sugarloaf Ridge State Parks - We ask for a commitment of only 4 hours per month and you will receive a park pass for your service. Trainings are specific to park and activity.
