   Bodega’s Brightest New Gem—Mudd & Gold!
Proud of Our Fishing Village To see our town come together for Fisherman’s Festival makes you feel enormous pride. Hundreds of volunteers work tirelessly from battering fish for the Fish & Chips, my messy but fun task, to coordinating every aspect of the event. Under the incredible leadership of Josh Perucchi and Kris Lepore this year’s success will provide thousands of dollars to nonprofits throughout the Bodega Bay area. Thank you to all 435 volunteers! Mark your calendars for next year on May 2 & 3rd, 2020.
I had the great pleasure to meet with our new neighbor, Lindsey Migdalski, the owner of the Mudd & Gold shop. She has lived in Bodega Bay since
August, 2018. She was born to be a barber. As a young girl, she would chop up the hair of all her barbies. Finally, she went to cosmetology school at age 19 and has been a hair stylist ever since.
Bodega Bay will be Red, White & Blue Come celebrate & show your love of America by joining us on Thursday, July 4th in Bodega Bay sponsored by the Bodega Bay Area Chamber of Commerce. Watch the Freedom Paddle event by Bodega Bay Kayak at 8:00 am at Doran Beach, the Stewards of the Redwoods and Coast will be at Campbell Cove with their Marine Education Van, US Coast Guard, Bodega Bay Firefighters and Davis Marine Lab Boats will be in the Boat parade. Gourmet Au Bay & Ginochio’s Kitchen will be offering live music on the patio by Dave Blottie with food specials 12 - 4. Porto Bodega will offer a Craft Fair & Blue Whale Center will offer cotton candy
Lindsey says, “I never got bored of my craft, just created new ways to enjoy the experience!” This is her first attempt at a retail store. She is very happy to fulfill her desire of making her home in a small town with plenty space for a nice garden; also to see the dream of her own shop become a reality.
Once she puts her mind to something, she gets it done. Similarly, her last business venture only took two months to come to fruition, which was a mobile salon where she cut hair out of a cute little trailer in
and face painting from 11 – 3. Second Wind will host a Monster Kite event at Doran & dancing at the Yacht Club that evening as well! Visit the Chamber website: visitbodegabayca.com for details. Thank you, Francesca Scalpi, for all your hard work organizing this fun event!
various parking lots in San Francisco.
She obtained her new building in Bodega back in February and held Mudd

A Bit More Crab & Whale Information – Local Fisherman Dick Ogg provided information on the Whale entanglements and why the early closure of the season. Crab season, which would typically extend to June 30th was closed Statewide April 15th. Not due to an increase in Dungeness crab gear entanglements, but due to the lawsuit filed by the Center for Biological Diversity. Of the total entanglements in 2017, there were only six confirmed, 2018 there were 5, and to date, there are 0 for 2019. The fishermen have gone
to great length to tighten up their gear (less line scope), shorten buoy length, neutral line which doesn’t float on the surface and removed leads on the line to help decrease the possibility of loops. “Our increased effort to recover our lost gear through our gear recovery programs has also been very successful”.
How to Help a 3-Year-Old Finish High School – It’s simply a fact that 3 and 4 year old children who attend school PRIOR to starting Kindergarten are MORE LIKELY to complete high school, have higher reading scores, not be held back to repeat a school year and complete college. Waves of Compassion Foundation, a 501c3 Nonprofit in Bodega Bay, is seeking donations to sponsor local children in the Bodega Bay Preschool. Won’t you donate? https:// wavesofcompassionfoundation.org/donate/ or mail a check to: WOCF, PO Box 1015, Bodega Bay, CA 94923

& Gold’s grand opening on April 19. She is so pleased by the great
response from the community. She plans to hold fun summer movie nights for locals. The goal being to bring denizens together in a cozy place that welcomes youth and encourages communal enjoyment. Stay tuned for these events!
A few months back, Lindsey
sent countless emails expressing interest in peoples’ crafts, although the response was underwhelming. After the engagement of her grand opening, so much art just flowed in. Those people who first hesitated, saw the Instagram posts and positive reactions, so they simply sent their goods on consignment right to her.
Initially, the thought was to
showcase and sell her maker friends’
crafts in order to occupy her time in
between haircuts. She also enjoyed restoring some old hatchets, of which she already sold most of. Because of their popularity, she joked that a better name for the store might just be “Haircuts & Hatchets,” directly because of what sells best.
Lindsey Migdalski refers to herself as a “one woman circus” who knows how to build, install electrical, refinish, paint, cut hair, etc. She started with only $5,000 and no investors or helpers. She is definitely “a girl who knows what she wants and gets it.” She completed everything by herself and created the shop she had envisioned.
I love the addition of all the live plants in her store and am intrigued by all the skulls and antlers. She says that they are her thing and the gift of getting a new animal skull is “equivalent to a dozen roses!”
“If you feel like Mudd, you’ll end up Gold” is a line from Townes Van Zandt’s song “Mr. Mudd and Mr. Gold,” which is where she found her inspiration years back when hearing the lyrics. So the appropriate slogan of Mudd & Gold is “Come in like Mudd and leave like Gold!”
