The Spirit of Life® Award is City of Hope’s highest honor.
City of Hope created The Spirit of Life® Award to recognize special volunteer leaders who exemplify City of Hope values: compassion, service with a sense of urgency, integrity, curiosity, excellence and collaboration.
Every year, esteemed honorees from diverse industry groups lead year-long fundraising campaigns and host events on behalf of City of Hope, helping to raise millions of dollars for cancer and diabetes research and care.
City of Hope modeled the award design after a statue crafted by artist Robert Russin, which he named “Spirit of Life” and dedicated to City of Hope in 1967. The statue sits atop a fountain and greets visitors at the entrance to City of Hope’s original campus near Los Angeles. The design — later adopted into City of Hope’s logo — celebrates the concept of family and our longstanding commitment to holistic and compassionate care.
