CHAPTER the most organized schedule won’t accomplish much unless it is filled with tasks
related to important goals. Key 2.3 shows parts of both a daily schedule and a weekly
schedule.
Be detailed and methodical about building your schedule. Follow these steps:
1. Enter Priority 1 items in your planner first. This means class times and days for the
term, including labs and other required commitments; work hours; and essential
personal responsibilities such as health-related appointments or childcare.
2. Enter key dates from your course syllabi. When you get your syllabi for the term,
enter all test and quiz dates, due dates for assignments, presentation dates for
projects, holidays, and breaks in your planner right away. This will give you a big
picture view of responsibilities and help you prepare for crunch times. For example,
if you see that you have three tests and a presentation all in one week later in the
term, you might rearrange your schedule during the preceding week to create
extra study time.
3. Enter dates of events and commitments. Put commitments in your schedule where
you can see and plan for them. Include club and organizational meetings, events
you need to attend for class or for other purposes, and personal commitments
such as medical appointments, family events, work obligations, or important
social events.
