Sources of Values
Your value system is complex, built piece by piece over time. It comes from many
sources—family, friends, culture, media, school, work, neighborhood, religious beliefs,
and world events. Internet and social media are strong influences, in large part because
of how frequently people interact with them. Positive effects of that include exposure
to a great variety of perspectives, cultures, and ideas. Negative effects include exposure
to destructive values, and potentially building an overdeveloped value of technology
that can hamper in-person interaction.
