Eco-Solution 2: Use of Navigation Apps
Our recommended eco-solution for achieving a
reduction of carbon emissions is to improve the van's
fuel efficiency. It is clear that driving in heavy traffic or
jams increases fuel consumption (FC) and reduces fuel
efficiency. The Land Transport Authority or LTA data
further supports this, which shows a direct relationship
between CO emissions, driving conditions, and fuel
2
consumption rates/efficiency (see Table 2).
The van that GymKidz uses is a Nissan NV350 (see Figure
5). It has an annual mileage of 9,600km. Figure 5: GymKidz van.
The Land Transport Authority of Singapore reports that for this particular model of vehicle, the performance numbers
are (see Table 2 and Figure 6):
NV350 Panel Van 5DR 2.5 5AT Heavy Traffic (Urban) Less Traffic (Extra Urban)
Fuel Consumption (l/100km) 10.60 7.40
Fuel Consumption (km/l) 9.43 13.51
CO (g/km) 279.00 193.00
