Eco-Solutions

The Environmental Sustainability Initiatives team is
confident that by reducing ice in the chilled drinks to a
50% cup volume, the SME will save on the water and
electricity consumption and reduce waste and lower
            carbon emissions to the environment.

Just like any change to an existing business operation,
there were challenges encountered. The first challenge
faced by the team was convincing the SME management
of the feasibility of the eco-solution. However, with data
properly collected and tabulated, the team managed to
            get buy-in from all stakeholders.

The other challenge that the team faced was ensuring
that the stall staff adhered to the new protocol of issuing
only 50 % ice in each cup (see Figure 9). To do so, the
team sourced a smaller scoop for taking the ice out from
the ice bucket into the disposable cups. The new scoop Figure 9: Amber trying out the new ice scoop.
fills the cup with only 50 % ice, reducing preparation and
            transaction time.
