By encouraging customers to return the plastic bottles, Eco-Solution 2: Converting to LED Lighting
a steady downward trend of bottles waste is expected.
This will translate to lesser amounts of carbon emission Research shows that one fluorescent light bulb has
to the environment. Figure 15 and 16 shows the team a total carbon footprint equal to 16.58 kg of carbon
liaising with EMARCO and NParks contractors on dioxide per year. Therefore, 60 fluorescent light bulbs
collecting the plastic bottles. will lead to about 633.23 kilograms of carbon dioxide
emissions per year.
A fluorescent light bulb to an LED type reduces CO 2
emissions to 6.8kg per bulb, about a 57.14 % reduction.
Findings: The Company is producing 82.92 kg of CO per
2
month with an estimated 60 fluorescent bulbs. Changing
all the bulbs to LED will significantly reduce emissions
by about 57.14 % of carbon emission per month.
Additionally, with the conversion to LED bulbs, EMARCO
will save $16.87 a month compared to fluorescent bulbs
at the expense of $46.39 a month.
Assuming EMARCO changes fluorescent light bulbs to
LED, it will take only one year to recover the service
cost for replacement. We produce a chart showing the

will save energy and costs, with an estimated saving of
$202.44 per year.
