Tan Kai En Calvin
Tan Kai En's journey as an environmental advocate
began when he was recognised with the HSBC NYAA
Youth Environmental Award in 2010, which allowed
him to train with Earthwatch Scientists in Puerto Rico's
Rainforest. There, he gained practical skills such as
measuring trees, counting lizards and frogs, and tagging
vine species, which laid the foundation for his future
contributions to environmental conservation.
Upon his return to Singapore, Kai En channelled his
expertise into community-driven initiatives, showcasing
his passion for biodiversity and inspiring others to protect
natural ecosystems. His leadership was evident from
his involvement in student-led efforts at the
National University of Singapore (NUS) to fronting
the Pasir Ris Sustainability Action Group (PRSAG), a
community group recognised by NParks as a Nature
Kaki Chapter. PRSAG mobilises residents from
various backgrounds to participate in hands-on
