Bukit Canberra Hawker Centre
“Come on, let’s go to a new hawker centre!” With
those words, our culinary adventure began. At first,
we were curious — what exactly is a hawker centre?
As we stepped into Bukit Canberra Hawker Centre, our
questions were quickly answered. The air was alive with
the aroma of fragrant spices and sizzling dishes, and the
soundscape was filled with clattering woks and friendly
chatter.
We were amazed by the wide variety of local delights
on offer — nasi lemak, chicken rice, and roti prata, all
prepared by experienced hawkers who have honed their
skills over the years. Every dish told a story, every aroma
evoked memories of home.
But hawker centres are more than just places to eat. They
are community hubs where families bond over meals
and friends catch up after a long day. As we explored “Hawker centres are more than just places to
the stalls and chatted, we learned about the challenges
hawkers face, from food waste to maintaining hygiene eat. They are community hubs where families
standards. Despite these hurdles, hawker centres remain bond and friends catch up.”
a vital part of Singapore’s cultural and social fabric.
As we sat down to enjoy our drinks — milk tea, coca- Loh Wen Ni, Eleanor & Leo Elin
cola, and kopi siu dai — we discussed interesting facts. P5 Perseverance & P6 Respect
Did you know that the colour of hawker centre tag Endeavour Primary School
signifies the healthiness of the food? Green tag typically
represent healthier options, while red ones suggest
indulgent choices. Also, drinks sold at hawker centres
carry Nutri-Grade labels from A to D, helping us make
more informed decisions. And if you’re ever unsure
about cleanliness, check the stall’s hygiene grade: A and
B are cleaner, while C and D may require more caution.
Our visit to Bukit Canberra Hawker Centre was a delicious
and educational journey. It reminded us that hawker
culture is not just about the food — it’s about heritage,
health, and heart.
