P. 60

Would you ever believe that Singapore has a hawker
culture? Since 1900, Singaporeans have been selling
food on the street. Singapore’s hawker culture has
grown widely around the world. Some people say
that hawker food is better than restaurant food. Since
hawker food is homemade, many people from other
countries are willing to try it. Many influencers have
come to Singapore to taste the delicate hawker foods.
Since Singaporeans are very popular for hawker food,
            we can attract tourists.

My grandparents have a hawker stall at Tekka Market.
I interviewed my grandparents about their stall. I have
visited their stall named Siti Rodiah Nasi Padang. My
grandparents, Siti Rodiah and Abdullah, founded this
stall. They have been working there together with my
uncles since 2008. Their stall is open from 6.30 am to Besides restaurant food, hawker food tastes way better
3 pm. Her hawker stall sells malay cuisine food. Her than restaurant food because it is cheap and delicious,
exceptional food on the menu is ayam masak merah, plus the portions are enormous, while restaurant food
asampedas, rendang, and other traditional Malay foods. has small portions. Hawker food also tastes more
                                                                 homemade than restaurant food.
My favourite food from their stall is nasi lemak. It is so
delicious, and the sambal is slightly spicy but flavourful.
There is always a long queue to buy food from her stall.
The most challenging part about her stall is getting “My grandparents’ hawker stall at Tekka
workers to work for her. They also have to wake up early, Market serves more than just nasi padang
around 3 am to 4 am, and come early to prepare the — it serves love, tradition, and the taste of
food for the customers to eat. Whenever I missed her home.”
cooking, I would always eat at their stall. Whenever you
are free, please drop by their stall at Tekka Market and
try the delicious food. Muhammad Adam Bin Mohamed Ridzuan
