Tom Whitman, CSP, CHMM
Tom has more than 34 years of experience in the
environmental, health and safety profession, and has
worked extensively in private industry and consulting. He is
a graduate of Shippensburg University in geo-environmental
studies and Indiana University of Pennsylvania in safety
sciences. He is a certified safety professional (CSP) and a certified
hazardous materials manager (CHMM). Tom has been with the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission since December 2018, as the employee safety manager.
Tom Zagorski, PE
Tom is senior vice president and national practice lead for
Construction Services for Michael Baker International, and
has been with Michael Baker for 36 years. He is responsible
for business development and technological advancement,
as well as overseeing the development of staff at the
management, operations and inspection levels. Tom ensures
that the firm’s Construction Services projects are adequately
staffed with qualified personnel and that all projects are performed with a focus on safety and quality. He also is responsible for improving and sharing industry knowledge, fostering innovation in project delivery, and continual improvement
of quality management.
Tom is well-versed in the various modes of construction – transportation, facilities, civil and environmental. He is very familiar with DOD, DOT, FAA, FHWA and FTA standards and specifications, as well as construction operations, scheduling, cost estimations, claims avoidance and partnering. Previously, Tom was a staff sergeant with the U.S. Air Force for four years.
Tom holds a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and a master’s degree in engineering management from the Catholic University of America. He is a licensed professional engineer in Pennsylvania and Virginia. He also is an active member of the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) and the Master Builders’ Association (MBA).
