Flag Raising Ceremony

Armed Forces Week 2016 got
off to a wet start on Monday

20 June 2016 with the formal
Flag Raising Ceremony in
Winchester.

Flag Raising

Under cloudy skies and intermittent
rain, the annual Flag Raising Ceremony,
marking the start of Armed Forces Week,
commenced with a Parade through
Winchester, up the High Street towards the
Great Hall. Members of the Parade were
drawn from all three services and was
commanded by our own Captain Sarah
Thomson of the Personnel Administration
Training Wing with Warrant Officer Class 2
Paula Aling as the Parade Sergeant Major.
The Parade was led by the Band and Bugles
of the Rifles who provided musical support
during the ceremony.
The Parade was inspected by the Lord
Lieutenant of Hampshire, Nigel Atkinson
Esq. with a number of other local
dignitaries also attending. After the
Flag Raising Ceremony had concluded
a reception was held in the historic
Winchester Great Hall for those who had
taken part.
