Central Flying School

Formed on 12 May 1912, the Central Flying School retains its original
title which has grown to become synonymous with excellence in flying
instruction the world over. With representatives from over 60 coun-
tries having been trained by the CFS, there is a fine tradition of excel-
lence that endures to this day.

Whether assuring instructional standards, auditing the flying training
system, engaging in re-establishing the pure flying skills of a battle-
weary front-line, training flying instructors of other nations, acting as
an enabling partner with UKMFTS, or playing its part in shaping the
future of flying training instruction, one constant is that the CFS will
continue to uphold its tradition of excellence.

Back in 1919, just 7 years after its formation, CFS was fighting for its
survival. It won that battle, and the last 102 years have seen it evolve
into a unit which prides itself on its unrivalled excellence in flying
training; of course it is so much more, and with judicious guidance,
the CFS has a bright future. After all, and as we know, our teaching
is everlasting!
