Successful remote communication can be as simple as not disappearing. Don’t ghost your people! Show up—every day, even if it’s a short Slack message or Trello comment. Career professionals don’t pull disappearing acts. Promptly responding to people shows you care about their business, work, timelines, and relationship with you. Often, customers on the other side of a remote work relationship may be waiting on something from you, as small as a quick update, to execute a considerable part of their workday. So, whether you’re a contractor or employee, take the initiative to show up and touch base. Doing just that presents you as a professional and a desirable asset to a company—so much so that they’ll want to continue maintaining a working relationship with you.
