FOREWORD
The Construction Industry Federation (CIF) sees benefit in collecting and sharing data, trends and
lessons learned in safety and health across the sector. We can only protect workers when we fully
understand the hazards and associated risks faced in workplace; therefore, we proactively undertake
risk assessments for planned activities. However, and despite our best intentions, accidents and
incidents occur. We cannot choose to accept the inevitability of such events; instead, we must strive
to avoid an occurrence. To this end, we must react to, investigate and evaluate all near miss events,
dangerous occurrences or accidents that occur – whether in our own business, or across the industry.

SUMMARY
In reviewing the data for the recording period, from April through the end of January 2022, it is
apparent that there were 78 injuries to individuals at work, which is not unexpected based on the
person-days worked (467,431). Overall, there were 120 incidents; hopefully, we can derive lessons
learned from these occurrences, to prevent recurrence within the impacted enterprise but also across
the wider sector. This information is summarised in Table 1.
