Stephanie Tubbs Jones

1949-2008

Before her election to Congress in 1998 after the retirement of Louis Stokes,

Representative Stephanie Tubbs Jones served as a judge in the Cleveland
Municipal Court the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court. She also served a

Cuyahoga County Prosecutor from 1991 until 1999.

Representative Tubbs Jones died in office in August 2008.

“It wasn’t enough for her just to break barriers in her own life,” President Barack
Obama said after her death. “She was also determined to bring opportunity to all

those who had been overlooked and left behind.”
