During its 50 years, the Congressional Black Caucus has been committed to
using the full power, authority, and resources of the federal government to ensure
that African Americans and other marginalized communities in the United States
have the opportunity to achieve the American Dream.
In addition to founding member Louis Stokes, our state’s first Black congressman,
Ohioans Stephanie Tubbs Jones, Marcia Fudge and Joyce Beatty have been
members of the Congressional Black Caucus over the years.
So have President Barack Obama, during his years as a senator from Illinois, and
Vice President Kamala Harris, who served as a senator from California.
