Black History Month is a time to celebrate and reflect on
the many contributions and successes of Black heroes
and trailblazers. We stand today a stronger, more vibrant,
and thriving Union because of the continued contribution,
influence, and ingenuity of the Black community.
Franklin County is a community brought together by our
shared achievements and challenges, and we know that
our sum is greater than our parts. Acknowledging and
recognizing Black History Month as a significant thread in
the tapestry of our nationhood pays homage to our
legacy and inspires future generations of forward
thinking, innovative leaders.
COVID-19 and this past year has provided no better
illustration of how our individual smaller efforts can
contribute to the greater good of all. That same
philosophy is the undergird of our civil rights movement
that broke barriers and limitations and in that spirit, we
celebrate the inauguration of our first VP woman of color
and welcomed a widened lens of what equality
resembles.
Let this past year and this Black History Month be a time
for us to reflect on just how much we can accomplish
through individual efforts that are aligned with our greater
good.
