RAYNES PARK PAST
A Hive of Activity
Just a few hundred yards and a hundred years from the action going on
today at The Vale - Kingston Road in Raynes Park was clearly a hive of
commercial activity even back before the Raynes Park Vale Chairman
was bossing it around South London's non-league pitches. This view of
the longest road in the neighbourhood is looking East with the junction
with Vernon Avenue just visible on the right. The balconies, crinolines
and the 'refreshments' shop (now the excellent Cinnamon Tree Indian
takeaway, by coincidence!) might have passed into the history but the
buildings are still unmistakeably those that line Kingston Road today!
