THE DIFFERENCE YOU HAVE MADE
Our purpose-built hospice offers countless benefits to patients, their families and whānau. Here is a snapshot of what your generosity has enabled.
• Better privacy for patients and their families with eight single patient rooms, each with their own private ensuite. There are no shared rooms or bathrooms as in our previous hospice.
• Improved access to our beautiful hospice gardens without the restrictions of steps or balustrades. Patients can enjoy the garden, whatever the weather, from the comfort of
a chair or bed, which can be wheeled outside to a private covered area.
• Additional space for family members to visit patients. With two dedicated Family Lounges and a Tamariki Lounge, more than one family can visit at any one time, large groups of families and friends can be catered for.
• Each patient room has a fold out bed for family members to stay overnight and be close to their loved ones at a time when being together is important.
• Our larger bariatric rooms cater for patients who weigh up to 275kg. The patient rooms and
bathrooms include specialised beds and equipment to ensure equity of access.
• The ceiling hoist, which runs through all patient rooms, enables us to move patients more comfortably and effectively from anywhere within their room.
• The McKenzie Centre, a large multifunction room, hosts education and community
events alike. We offer education opportunities to our staff, other health professionals, patients and their carers. Community groups
who fundraise on our behalf have enjoyed visiting and touring the hospice to learn more about what we do.
• A dedicated room to store
our Occupational Therapist equipment. We are the only hospice in the lower North Island that provides specialised equipment to patients being cared for at home. It enables patients to get the equipment they need quickly and reduces stress on those caring for them.
