MICK TURNER I VISION FOR THE DIVISION
BEYOND PROJECT GOVERNANCE
Beyond project governance, I have a proven track record in building and leading successful teams:
• Led the Metropolitan Police Ski Team for 10 years, transforming it from a small, struggling team into a dominant force in competition.
• Turned around a dysfunctional Police Unit from consistently ranking 5th out of 5 to becoming a top-performing team, finishing 2nd consistently.
• Built a winning team at Cratos, establishing the company as a leading firm in NZ and a centre of excellence in the autonomous, uncrewed, and robotics field.
To further strengthen my governance expertise, I enrolled as a member of The Alternative Board (TAB) for 18 months, engaging with other business leaders to refine strategic planning, governance structures, and leadership practices. This membership provided monthly Board meetings together with formal, one on one, business coaching sessions between meetings. This experience has reinforced my ability to guide organisations towards sustainable success.
Recently I was elected onto the Board of the New Zealand Defence Industry Association (NZDIA) and currently serve as the Deputy Chair. This association is an industry body that promotes members business’ into Defence and other Government Agencies. This entails meeting with Defence Leaders, Ministers and industry stakeholders, leading large events and enhancing the visibility and approachability of the Board to members.
My leadership approach is built on integrity, collaboration, and a commitment to excellence, qualities that align strongly with the responsibilities of the Deputy Grand Master of Freemasons NZ.
My style of leadership is not about being perfect but authentically leading. When you lead from a place of passion and purpose, others will naturally be drawn to you and your message. I do not apply a singular leadership style but am able to switch styles depending on the situation that I am facing.
I bring a wealth of experience in governance, decision-making, and strategic leadership, and I will apply this to the maximum effect ensuring I can effectively support the Grand Master in promulgating the continued strength, growth, and strategic direction of Freemasons NZ.
