5 YEAR PLAN FOR LOCAL
Year 1:
Focus on the basics. Nothing flash. Get your name out. Pump your existing networks and try your hand at growing new networks. Join a interest group or sports team, even sponsor a local kids team. Anything you can think of to get the opportunity to be involved with new people. Just remember soft and steady. Build the relationship first. Another fantastic way it to join a BNI group. This is Business Networking International. I spent 10 years in one of these groups. At one time I could trace all of my work back to a lead given to me form this group. In fact, I can probably still trace a very large percentage back even today!
We will start taking to our networks and from a plan as to when we will be in a position to start tendering projects for then in your region. Right from day one we will be in the market for housing developments of between 3 and 10 houses. These will be great jobs to cut your teeth on.
We will flesh this out more in the sales and marketing section.
$300,000 in your first year may sound like a lot. Lets brake it down. $25,000 per month. Average townhouse currently works out to be around $15K, so that would be less than 2 a month. A couple of heat pump installs, switchboard upgrade with kitchen reno would also get you there. Remember you don’t need to spend all your evenings invoicing and quoting, that’s up to us! Just focus on building Neat relationships and watch things start to come together.
Profit:
Lets brake that down too. $300K turnover. Take on an apprentice, after all you’re a business owner, you don’t want to do all the nasty jobs, $41K, Materials will be in the ballpark of $100k, GT NZ fee, $30K.
Leaves you with $129k. Other expenses and loan payments, $30K, nice little package of $100K income in your first year. In these first few years you will be busy on the tools. Your workmanship is important. Your motivation, speed, pride in your product. This is setting the foundation for business. Your first employees will see this and feed off it. The stories of how hard you work will stick around. Keep in mind, at least your working hard to build your business not someone else’s!
