We won our first $1M+ project when we were 5 years into the commercial electrical field. All though different to you, we needed to work ourselves up through an additional 10 years of domestic. Fighting with every other one-man band. This project was run for me by a first-year tradesman. He started with us during our first commercial project and really learnt his trade along with me navigating the commercial world from my office. He did a fantastic job which has really opened the door for many more projects. I wont say to much more about him since he will be reading this manual as owner of GT Electrical Wellington.
We supplemented our employees with ETCO apprentices. They have proved to be a helpful way to get another set of hands at pretty cost- effective rates. We currently complete jobs with up to half the staff of other companies. I work with the foreman to set expectations for them and the guys working on their site. More staff = more problems and less money.
