News CCCI invites national clubs and correspondents around the world to send news
for publication in Chow Life magazine. Chow Life is sent to more than 20
countries and we’d love to see the Chow world get a bit smaller through this media.

In February I got a very interesting chat from a Facebook
friend in the US. She had produced a beautiful smooth
fawn puppy by two longhaired parents, and had been told
this was impossible. Enzo Farinalla in Italy had asked
her to send me the picture, and I sure was interested.
Yes, it is possible to get a smooth puppy from longhaired
parents. It is seldom seen, but it is possible. Actually it
has happened two times in Norway, one of them became
Norway’s first smooth Champion. And we also know of
one born at the Ukwong kennels in England, Ukwong
Shot Silk by Ukwong Barbarossa x Ukwong Model. Coco Chanel Mon Ange
The first one born in Norway was called Lohov’s Fiasco, In the 1980s another smooth from two long coated

had to complete with the longhairs, he had to start it all she has not kept any pictures of this bitch.
over again. I seem to remember I was the one that gave
him his final CC, for real Norw championship. He was When starting look behind in the pedigrees of these

pedigree. When the puppy was 6 weeks old – he was born grandparent’s generation there are a lot of Chows from
on October 5th, 1981, the breeders Laila and Johannes the Ukwong kennels, and prefix from kennels using
Hovdal, contacted the Norwegian Veterinary Highschool Chows from Ukwong lines, quite a lot of the same names

          smooth.
A simple way to explain an incomplete penetrance is that
both parents of the smooth puppy were carrying their
own incomplete smooth gene, and thus a smooth puppy
could be born from two longhaired parents. Laila Hovdal
further informed me that it might be important to know
that Dr. Norodd Nes told them that a part of a smooth
gene can rest in many generations before the gene meets
it’s equal in a so called genetic engineering.
Fiasco gave his smooth genes further on to many of his
pups. Behind all the smooth Chows that kennel Lohov Norw Swed CH Lohov's Fiasco 83
