The vote on proposed amendment to Ch.11,
Sect.8-A of Rules Applying to Dog Shows
which added wording about administrative
DQ of a dog that if on 3 occasions an Event
Committee determined that the dog attacked
a person or dog at an AKC event, presents a
hazard to persons or other dogs but no injury
resulted was not adopted. There was also
wording about awards received under this
section and whether or not the dog could be
allowed to compete or be on the grounds until
its eligibility has been reinstated.
The vote on proposed amendment to Ch.11,
Sect. 8 and Ch.6, Sect 2 of Rules Applying to
Dog Shows was adopted. This allows dogs that
have been spayed or neutered to compete in
Brace and/or Teams classes in independent
specialties or all-breed dog shows that do not
offer competition beyond Best of Breed.
The financial report presented was concerning.
Income from litter and individual registration
has declined and operating expenses have gone
up. There was concern expressed that the AKC
Board was aware of this problem some time
ago but did not share the information with
the delegate body. It is hoped that there
will be greater transparency and better
communication going forward.
Many of you are aware that there
was an event service fee increase
imposed from $3.00 to $4.50.
This was then postponed
pending reevaluation of the
financial implications for
clubs.
Also, effective April 1, 2025,
Gina DiNardo will become
President and CEO of AKC
following the departure of
long-serving Dennis Sprung.
He received a lengthy standing
ovation at the meeting and
has been appointed President
Emeritus.
The next meeting will be in June in
Newark.
