President’s
Message by Dave Cook
If you are not aware, the revised breed standard was approved by a wide margin by the CCCI
membership and becomes effective on July 22, 2020. The revised breed standard will allow cream
chows to have a range of nose color, from dark black/brown solid pigment, fading to pinkish pig-
ment, with or without darker nose rim pigment at the outer edge. Thanks to Kurt Williams and
the Breed Standard Committee for finally getting this adopted!
As everyone is aware, due to COVID-19 we were forced to reschedule our National Specialty in April and
have rescheduled for September 19th through the 23rd. Thanks to Marianne Smart and Cindy Stone for
their work in making this happen. The CCCI Board intends on moving forward with the National Specialty
unless we are prohibited from having it by the state of New York. Please cross your fingers that we will be
able to have our specialty in September. We were fortunate that all the judges previously scheduled to judge
were available except for Jackie Stacy who was replaced by Ruth Rohrbach. Also, the Canadian shows which
were previously scheduled in April were unfortunately not rescheduled.
Plans for the 2021 National Specialty are well under way and make sure you clear your calendar for April
19th through the 22nd for the 2021 National Specialty at the Radisson Hotel Harrisburg in Camp Hill, Penn-
sylvania with the Southern Chow Chow Club as our host.
At its April quarterly meeting, the Board of Directors approved a proposal from the Marriott Riverfront in
South Sioux City, NE to host the 2022 National Specialty. As no proposals were received from regional clubs,
the CCCI Board will put on the National Specialty. The dates for the 2022 National Specialty are May 9th
through the 12th so please put those dates on your calendar.
If you have not visited the Chow Club’s new website, I highly encourage you to do so. The new website is a
big step forward for the club and my appreciation goes out to Phil DeGruy for all his hard work in creating
the new website. Phil continues to add content to the website, and it is a great resource to club members.
As always, is an honor to serve as your President and please feel free to contact me should you have any sug-
gestions or concerns by email at huchu@aol.com or on my cell at (630) 878-2019. I look forward to hope-
fully seeing everyone in September in Niagara Falls.
Note from the Editor
I hope that everyone is healthy and has been able to endure these trying times.
COVID-19 will cause some changes in the Fall issue of Chow Life. Due to the
2020 National Specialty being postponed until September, the Specialty win-
ners will be featured in the Winter issue this year and time will tell if there are
any new titles since there haven’t been any shows for the last few months.
I know these times have been hard for many, so I’m offering a COVID-19 sale
of 19% off all full page color ads in the Fall 2020 issue. This special offer will
be automatically applied, but it can ONLY be combined with the camera-ready
discount.
