Competition (Direct TDU)
Direct- red thermal desorption units (DTDU) consist of a counter ow desorber drum and a endant air pollu on control equipment. The rotary drum desorber operates the ow of soil counter to the ow of combus on gases.
This counter-current system provides heat transfer and ue gas temperature control. Contaminated material is fed into the rota ng bar- rel, which is directly heated by burners to desorb the contaminants. In this process, contaminants are freed from the soil and destroyed in the o -gas treatment system. The DTDU does not recover oil.
These units take mul ple semi truck loads to transport and o en take weeks to setup. Moving these units to projects that are less than 20,000 tons is not economically feasible.
