curriculum and occurring across all classrooms, with assessment to lead to responsive

○ Timeline (Anticipated Start/Finish): Quarter 2 - November 2019 - December 2019
○ Major Action Steps: (1) In English, utilize Collections Interactive lesson tied to
Collection 2 poems; (2) In Reading, leverage direct instruction of each type of figurative
language with application of each in independent novels; (3) Assess students’ mastery
and offer differentiated learning opportunities to ensure mastery.
2. Facilitate guided discussions and Socratic seminars with multiple informational texts.
○ Key Personnel: 7th grade English and Reading teachers
○ Timeline (Anticipated Start/Finish): Quarter 3 - January 2020 - March 2020
○ Major Action Steps: (1) Both English and Reading teachers will coordinate text
selections and instruction to complete 1-2 information texts each, embedding this
instructional strategy in the critical skills and TDA units; (2) Upon completion of reading
the texts, both groups will participate in small group discussion and/or Socratic seminars.
3. Informational texts will be utilized for TDA application within the ELA and reading courses.

analysis, students will write an information text TDA on those texts; (2) Teachers will
conduct small group conferences determined by areas of strengths and weaknesses to
improve overall writing quality and analysis.
Grade 8: Additional Next Steps:
1. Analyze and understand data from the Stars 360 assessment, connecting back to curriculum and
instruction through the PRSD Model for Teaching and Learning.

○ Timeline: September 2019 - June 2020
○ Major Action Steps: (1) Test all students on STAR 360 in September (2) Share data with
classroom teachers and data teams (3) Develop and implement instructional interventions
to meet the needs of students (4) Test all students on STAR 360 in January (5) Share data
with classroom teachers and data teams and begin to make 9th grade class
recommendations (6) Develop and implement instructional interventions to meet the
needs of students (7) Test all students on STAR 360 in April (8) Share data with
classroom teachers and data teams.

skills, particularly analyzing, inferencing, and drawing conclusions.
