Planning of university extension projects/activities is participated by university extension staff, faculty, and stakeholders that will be
involved in its implementation. This is done to ensure that these projects/activities are responsive to the needs of the partner community/ies,
thus creating greater impacts.
Planning employs a bottom-up approach where community members are involved in the identification of their felt-needs and problems.
Solutions to these identified problems will be addressed through the planning and development of extension activities together with the
Barangay officials, representatives of various sectors, including women and some farmer leaders. Series of workshops were conducted to
formulate their Barangay Integrated Development Plan (BIDP) that served as a guide in the implementation of projects/activities geared
towards the holistic development of their community.
Projects/activities (as reflected in their BIDP) are implemented by the community with the technical assistance provided by the
university. Local leaders are trained to source out funds and/or raise their own funds, whenever needed, to finance the implementation of their
projects. The community is also involved in the monitoring and evaluation of their activities. Results of which served as an input for the
reformulation of their BIDP for the next planning period.
Men and women in the community also participate in various technology/knowledge dissemination activities to enhance their
knowledge and skills and for its eventual utilization to improve their quality of life. Such activities include seminars, fora, symposia, training,
informal classes, technology demonstration, among others.
The extension program was planned and to be implemented based on the real needs of the people in the community. It is also
envisioned that the extension programs and activities are in the context of the capabilities of the University/College in terms of financial,
physical, and human resources.
Great things can happen in the lives of project recipients by increasing community involvement. Volunteering is one of the most
common and popular ways to encourage community involvement in the institution's extension programs. Connection with and sponsorships
from local businesses, civic organizations, charities, nonprofit foundations, and other groups have been established to enlist volunteers
to come in before, during, or after the execution of the projects. The community participates interactively in decision making and consultatively
as to what they would like to see or what they expect out from the project.
