DEFINITION OF LEGEND

Legend is one of the folk stories that can be classified into a group of
narrative texts. In general, examples of narrative texts used to learn English at
school can be examples of narrative fables, myths, legends, and other stories,
including love stories. All of these stories are included in the narrative text
category because there are many contradictions between the actors of the story.
This complication is considered to be the main element in a narrative story.
Without a conflict in the story, the story cannot be used as an example of
                     narrative text.

Legend (legend) there are several kinds. If simplified, the narrative
legend text can be divided into four types. First a religious legend. This type of
legend is usually about the story about Walisongo, Syeh Siti Jenar, and other
holy figures. The second is the legend of the unseen realm. Usually this type of
legend is related to a story that is in plain sight, such as a ghost story in the
Bogor botanical garden. The third type of legend is an individual legend. The
story that culminates in individual characters such as Andhe-Andhe Lumut,
Kethek Ogleng. The fourth type is local legend. Usually this story is related to
an incident in a place such as the legend of Kuningan, the origin of the name of
the city of Banyuwangi, the origin of the name of the city of Jember, the origin
of the name Tengger and the occurrence of Mount Batok, and the legend of
Tangkuban Perahu, and other legends of the place.

In addition to narrative stories in the form of legends from within the
country, in the example of narrative text legends above, several English
legends from abroad are also included, including legends of the origin of the

Though this modul focuses on the legend definition, it is important to
note that nowadays, we also use the term “legend” when we want to emphasize
