in Christ by the new birth, he or she receives

a new nature and the mind of Christ, and

Christ was sinless even in His thought life.

But because a Christian’s sin nature is not

eradicated when he or she is regenerated by

God’s Holy Spirit, the “old man” (the flesh)

can be tempted by the world, the flesh, and

the Devil, and a Christian can choose to

succumb to those sinful temptations, which

would include succumbing to sinful thoughts

and emotions. It should be emphasized,

however, that, for a Christian, sin is a choice

because God has given us power through

the indwelling Holy Spirit to resist sinful

temptations. James 4:7 tells Christians to

“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist
