SAFELY LEADING
THROUGH TIMES OF CRISIS
A Safety Recap from Marty Rouse, VP of Safety &
Shayne Stevens, Senior Corporate Safety Director
As we know, it was a year of unexpected circumstances that no one could
Rosendin OSHA Update foresee. Still, we all came together to lead our teams and the industry through
(as of November 2020) this uncertain period. The Safety Leadership team would like to thank everyone
for their commitment to safety and providing solutions that have protected
our workforce while making our jobs the safest in the country. We have strong
Manhours = 10,170,314 hours leadership at Rosendin, and it shows in all facets of our business.
Total Recordables = 45 Looking at the numbers for safety, we are on pace to have a total recordable

Lost Day Cases = 2 .62. Our numbers are below the industry standard based on insurance data
compared to other competitors, general contractors, and clients we work with.
Lost Day Case Rate = 0.03 We will have a new average number from the previous three years in April of
2021.
While numbers don't always give the full view of safety going into the new
year, we are re-focusing on programs that engage our employees with
.62 EMR all project personnel. In 2021 we want to see more participation with our
Recognition Program and our Craft Empowerment Program. In past years

we have seen both these programs serve our teams well. Our employees
continue to have outstanding achievements, day to day successes, innovative

ideas, and more importantly, the right attitude about our safety program. With
the Craft Empowerment Program, we want to ensure our project managers,
field supervision, and craft employees continue to lead it as it has evolved
into a program that has captured the voice of our craft, focusing on worksite
conditions, our quality of work, and safety. We continue to see the positive
impact this program has on our jobs.
Highlights from 2020 included Safety Week, which was postponed in early
May till September. Early in the year, the safety and the training departments
collaborated on a Fall Protection video that showed the effects of falls on the
human body from heights of 10 feet and 18 feet. The in-house "myth buster"
style format showed two ballistic dummies falling. A real doctor evaluated
what body parts were injured and whether the dummy would have survived
the fall without fall protection. This video gathered attention from OSHA,
NECA, The Board of Certified Safety Professionals, The National Safety Council,
and many other organizations as a first-of-its-kind. There have been many
videos on fall protection in the safety training world. However, this video
provided perspective on what can happen when you fail to wear the proper fall
protection and tie off. Safety Week was a huge success not only because of
the video but also because of the Executive Team's support. Each member put
together short videos made available each day for our teams to watch. These
videos included messages on driving safety, our culture of care, excavation

we get involved with safety, the more successful our program is, and TWO, our
safest jobs are our most successful.
