FIGURE-EIGHT This knot is known in Italy as the
KNOT Savoy knot because it appears in
the coat of arms of the House of
First method Savoy. In heraldry it is known as the
love knot for it symbolizes faithful
love and eternal friendship, but it is
most widely known as the figure·
eight knot because of its
characteristic shape. It is made in
the end of a rope with the upper
loop nipping the standing part and
the lower loop nipping the end.
