        The bowline on a bight is
        made of two fixed loops
        which have the same diameter
        and overlap each other, but
        when opened out they can be
        used separately. It is a very old
        knot but is still used
        particularly in sea rescues. If
        the person to be rescued is
        conscious he puts one leg
        through each loop and holds
