Bubbles, oysters and a taste of Jamaica.
This extraordinary experience will be available for one night only. Chef Craig Wong, the creative talent behind Toronto’s popular Patois, will start the evening off with some of the Jamaican-Chinese restaurant’s greatest hits, such as the foie gras and duck confit potstickers and the O.G. fried chicken. Those tantalizing bites will then be followed by the main event, a taste of Chef Wong’s newest venture, Mignonette, an elevated wine bar with natural and local wines that will open this spring upstairs from Patois. Expect lashings of Champagne and all the tender bounty of the sea: overflowing shellfish platters, freshly shucked oysters, elegant crab Louis, rich buttered uni toast, tangy ceviche and mentaiko pasta, the creamy, umami- rich Japanese-style cod roe pasta.
ABOUT CRAIG WONG
Craig Wong is the Chef-Owner of Patois, where he combines the flavours and traditions of his Jamaican- Chinese heritage with the disciplined techniques he learned in Michelin-starred restaurants in Europe. Previously, Chef Wong was Sous Chef at Luma and The Granite Club, spent a year cooking for Alain Ducasse au Plaza Athénée in France and worked for the McEwan Group of restaurants. Now he brings all of his wide-ranging experience to the table with his newest venture, Mignonette, a seafood and natural wine bar upstairs from Patois, opening in Spring 2020.
TASTY FACT
The French term mignonette originally meant a sachet of peppercorns and other spices used to flavour liquids such as broth; these days, it just refers to cracked pepper. Mignonette sauce, however, is a condiment of minced shallots, cracked pepper and vinegar, traditionally served with raw oysters.
