Güzel ve güler yüzlü insanların ülkesi Nepal’de, başkent Kat- mandu’da en popüler, en çok turist çeken mekanları arasında bir de Thamel denilen eski, tarihi bölgesi yer alıyor. Muhteşem doğaya ve binlerce yıldır ayakta kalmış tarihi bir başkente sahip Başkent Katmandu’da Thamel gezilecek, görülecek yerler bakı- mından oldukça zengin bir yer diyebilirim. Binlerce yıllık tarihi ile dünyanın farklı kültürlerine sahip şehirde Thamel’de keyi e za- man geçirebilebiliyor. Bu bölge için tek olumsuz uyarım yok.
Thamel, aynı zamanda otellerin yer aldığı, sırt çantalıların bol bol zaman geçirdiği, restoranların, hediyelik aşyaların bol bol sa- tıldıgı dükkanlarla dolu olan bir bölge. Araçla girişin olduğu gibi, trafiğe kapalı bölgeleri de var. 24 saat boyunca hayatların aktığı, oldukça güzel bir yer Thamel...
Katmandu Durbar Meydanı
Dünyanın en meşhur meydanlarından biri Katmandu’da yer alı- yor: Durbar Meydanı. Durbar Saray anlamına geliyor. Yani, Katman- du’nun Saray Meydanı. Oldukça meşhur ve yoğun bir meydan burası. Tarihi yüzlerce yıl öncesine giden sarayların, tapınakların yer aldıgı bir bölge. Eski şehrin merkezindeki bu tarihi meydanda Nepal mimarisinin en güzel örnekleriyle dolu bir meydan burası.
Katmandu’da bu şekilde 3 tane Durbar meydanı var. Patan Dur- bar, Katmandu Durbar ve Baktabur Durbar isimleri altında 3 mey- dan bulunuyor. Bu meydanların her biri de kralların bizzat ken- dilerinin inşa ettirdikleri kraliyet yapılarıyla dolu. Her gelen kral kendinden önceki kraldan daha ihtişamlı, daha güzel saraylar, tapınaklar yaptırmak istemiş ve her gelen kral Durbar adı altında meydanlarda ihtişamlı yapılar yaptırmış. Bu yapılar 18. yüzyıla ka- dar da kullanılmış. Bugün ise, bu saraylar müzeye dönüştürülmüş. Saraydan oluşturulmus bu müzelerde eşsiz eserler sergileniyor. Altından yapılmış kral tahtlarından, binlerce yıl öncesinden gelen bronz ve gümüş eserlerden oluşan zengin bir tarih koleksiyonu burda ziyaretcılerle buluşuyor.
Katmandu’da yapılacak gezilecek yer çok; ama biraz da çevre- sinden bahsetmem gerek. Katmandu’dan çıktık sonra önce rota- mıza Chitwan’ı alıyoruz. Chitwan Katmandu’ya yaklaşık 175km. kadar. Sabahın erken saatlerinde Chitwan için düşüyoruz yolla- ra. Ayrıca iç hat uçuş ile de Chitwan’a ulaşım sağlanabiliyor. Peki, Chitwan’da ne var, neden gidiyoruz?
Thamel
In Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, the country of beautiful and cheerful people, Thamel district, which is an old and histori- cal district, is one of the tourists’ attractions. I may say the cap- ital Kathmandu has a magni cent nature and history as well as it o ers many tourists attractions such as Tamel. With its thousands of years of heritage, it is possible to spend time in Thamel, in the city with di erent cultures of the world. I do not have one negative recommendation for this area.
Thamel is a region where there are many hotels, restaurants and souvenir shops as well as it is largely visited by the backpackers. While there is an access by car, there are areas closed to tra c. Thamel is a nice place, which is active for 24 hours.
Kathmandu Durbar Square
One of the most famous squares in the world is located in Kath- mandu. Durbar Square. Durbar means “Palace”. Thus, it is the “Pal- ace Square” of Kathmandu. It is a very famous and crowded square. This region is where the palaces and temples are located, which dates back hundreds of years. This historic square in the center of the old city is full of the nest examples of Nepalese architecture.
There are similar 3 Durbar Squares in Kathmandu. There are 3 squares called Patan Durbar, Kathmandu Durbar and Bhaktabur Durbar. Moreover, each of these squares is lled with Palaces that the Kings built themselves. Each King wanted to build more mag- ni cent, more beautiful palaces, temples than the predecessor, and every new King constructed magni cent buildings by using the name “Durbar”. These buildings are used until the 18th cen- tury. Today, these buildings are used as museums. Unique works are exhibited in these museums, which were used as the Palaces before. A rich history collection consisting of bronze and silver masterpieces dating from thousands of years ago is awaiting the visitors here.
There are many attractions in Kathmandu but let me mention the surroundings of Kathmandu. We left Kathmandu, we are go- ing to Chitwan. Chitwan is 175 km. away from Kathmandu. We are heading to Chitwan in the early hours. You can also get to Chitwan by domestic ight. What do we expect to see in Chitwan?
