Hayvan sahiplenmek için ne yapmamız gerekir?
Hayvan sahiplenmek için ilk adresimiz barınaklar ola- bilir. Yine, bizim gibi ücretsiz sahiplendirme yapan pek çok veteriner kliniği var. Hiçbir zaman, bir canın para kar- şılığında satın alınmasını doğru bulmuyorum. Etik gelmi- yor bana... Tabii, bunu da tercih edenler oluyor. Hayvan sahiplenmek için öncelikle, bir hayvanın sorumluluğunu alabilecek durumda olmalısınız. Yani, bu hayvan birkaç yıl yaşamayacak. 15, belki 20 yıl yaşayacak. Yurt dışından kaçak getirilebiliyorlar. Steril olmayan, sağlıklarını tehdit eden ortamlarda bakılıyorlar. Yavrular, annelerinden çok erken koparılıyor. Dolayısıyla, sütten erken kesildikleri ve beslenmedikleri için birçok hastalık çıkabiliyor. Kimse buna alet olmasın.
Sahiplendiğimiz hayvanın evde bakımı nasıl olmalı?
Kedi ile köpek çok farklı. Kedi, aslında bakımı çok ko- lay bir hayvan; çünkü her ihtiyacını kendi karşılayabiliyor; ama köpek öyle değil. Periyodik aşıları bittikten sonra, ihtiyaçlarını giderebilmesi için düzenli olarak sokağa çı- karmak, aşılarına, mamalarına ve beslenmelerine çok dikkat etmek lazım. Yani, mutlaka veteriner kontrolün- de, kedi ve köpek bakımı yapılmalı. Bunların dışında, sev- giden başka bir şey istemiyorlar aslında... İlgi şart. Evde hayvan bakmak, çok güzel bir şey. Özellikle, manevi yönü çok tatmin edici.

It will live for 15, maybe 20 years. You must undertake the responsibility materially and morally. An- imals are not a toy or object. Nothing is more remorse- less than saying “It’s very sweet, very cute, let’s take.”, and then after 3 days, saying “We cannot look after it, let’s throw it in the street.”
How are the animals bought from pet shops? There may be animals with threatened life conditions or bred under compulsion, isn’t it true?
They can be brought smuggled from abroad. They are kept in non-sterile, health-threatening environments. The young ones are snatched away from their moth- er too early. Therefore, many diseases may occur as they are weaned too early and not fed properly. No one should be an instrument to it.
What should the care of the animal we adopt be at home?
Cats and dogs are very di erent. The cat is actually an animal that is very easy to care because it can meet all its own needs, but the dog is not like that.
