Anti-Semitism
We hear the argument that those opposing Israel or Zionism are not anti- Semitic. However, the reality is that the world’s oldest hate has morphed from hatred of Jews as a people to hatred of Jews as a nation. Those who oppose Israel may think they are doing so on a political level, but they are unknowingly tapping in to the anti-Semitic spirit that has sought the destruction of the Jewish people through the ages.
We see this latter form of anti- Semitism outworking in the current Labour party. From Corbyn’s wreath laying at the graves of terrorists, to Livingstone’s Hitler “supported Zionism” comments and beyond to a Labour councillor saying Jews “need executing” because they support Israel; the public is becoming aware of how anti-Israel attitudes are morphing into anti- Semitism.
Likewise, those who argue against Israel and Zionism try to say that Zionism is a “political movement”. The truth is that Christians and Jews are Zionists because of our belief that God gave the land of Israel to the Jewish people as an eternal inheritance.
As CUFI founder Pastor Hagee regularly says, “Israel is not a political issue, it is a Bible issue”.
In the first six months of 2018, the UK Jewish community endured the second highest number of anti-Semitic incidents since records began.
Today in Britain, some Jews are choosing to hide their identity for fear that they will be targeted. Jewish schools are surrounded by metal fences with full time security guards and metal detectors to check all who enter. At times of high alert, armed police stand guard at Jewish schools and outside synagogues. No one should feel threatened to attend their own place of worship. No child should need armed police standing guard at school. And especially not in Britain!
Is it any wonder then that British Jews feel anxious that the head of Her Majesty’s Opposition has called terrorists who kill Jews his “friends” and yet calls Israel’s actions “terrorism”? And the fact that these anti-Semitic attitudes are now prevalent in politics shows us that what was once an opinion held by a minority in the shadows is now becoming a mainstream viewpoint.
Christians United for Israel exists in the UK to stand with Israel and the Jewish people against anti-Semitism whether that hate manifests itself through hatred of Israel or Jewish people.
We encourage you to add your voice to our Christians Against Anti-Semitism Declaration. We want to show the Jewish community that Christians stand with them against this hate and show the anti-Semites that if they have a problem with Jews, then they have us to deal with us.
You can add your name to the Declaration by visiting www.cufi.org. uk/campaigns or by completing the enclosed form. Please take this form
to your friends, family or church to gather more signatures. And even if you can only get one name added to this Declaration, please send it back to the address provided so we can add that name to the total. Every signature helps.
As Pastor Hagee recently declared, “Christians United for Israel is at war with anti-Semitism. Anti-Semitism is not a Jewish problem, it is everybody’s problem.”
