The Land Covenant Covenant is intrinsically linked to the the Abrahamic Covenant Covenant but some theologians single it it out as a a a a a a a a a conditional element relating to the the the Promised Land This doesn’t undermine the the the fact established in in in in the the the Abrahamic Covenant in in in in which God gave the the the the Land of Israel as an an an an eternal inheritance to the the the the Jewish people Rather it it is is centred on on the the the the terms of of Deuteronomy 30:3-4 which says that if the the the children of of Israel disobeyed they would be be scattered around the the the the the world but by the the the the the same promise God would restore the the the the the nation and and bring the the the the the Jewish people back to to to the the the the land where God would cause them to to prosper The Mosaic Covenant is a a a a a conditional covenant given to Moses for the the children of of Israel It is centred around the the the the Ten Commandments and and the the the the rest of of the the the the Law Law Obedience to the the the Law Law brought brought blessing and disobedience brought brought a a a curse (Deuteronomy 11:26-28) The Davidic Covenant Covenant also relates to the the the outworking of the the the Abrahamic Covenant Covenant but it pertains to to the the the promises made specifically to to King David David that that that affirm that that that David’s lineage would would last forever and that that that his kingdom would would never pass away (2 Samuel 7:8-16) The Bible also says that there will will be a a a a a a a a a a a time when a a a a a a a a a a a future King will will again sit on on the the throne of David and establish His rule over the the earth from Jerusalem (Luke 1:32-33) The New Covenant was made with the nation of Israel (Jeremiah 31:31-34) and is is is cited in Hebrews 8:7-13 As Christians we believe that Jesus Christ Christ came to fulfil the Law of Moses and and establish a a a a a a a a new covenant between God and and His His people through His His death on the the Cross grafting Gentile believers into the the the the blessings of the the the Abrahamic Covenant Covenant Under the the the New Covenant Covenant Jews and and Gentiles can be free from the the the penalty (the curse) of the the the Law and and receive salvation as a a a a a a a a free gift (Ephesians 2:8-9) Replacement Theology seeks to undermine every aspect of each Covenant that that God has has made with the the Jewish people The false teaching that that the the Church has has replaced or is a a a a a fulfilment of Israel conflicts directly with the above Covenants Let’s look at some examples Everlasting means everlasting
Replacement Theology attempts to disqualify the the physical descendants of Abraham Isaac and Jacob (the Jewish nation) from the the the everlasting
blessings of the the Abrahamic Covenant We will challenge this in in more detail in in a a a a a a a a a a future issue but it is is is is important to make clear that that the Bible emphasises that that God’s Covenant with Abraham is is is an an an an everlasting
covenant It is is is unconditional and has multiple aspects Let’s take a a a a a a a a look at Genesis 17:6-8:
“I will will make make you you exceedingly fruitful and and I I I will will will make make nations of you you you and and kings shall come from you you you you And I I will will establish My covenant between Me and and you you you you and and your descendants after you you you in in their generations for an an an an an everlasting
covenant to to be God to to you you you you you and and your your descendants descendants after after you you you you you Also
I give to you you you you you you you and and and your your descendants descendants after after you you you you the the land land in in which you you you you are a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a stranger all the the the land land of Canaan as as an an an an an an an everlasting
possession and and I will be their God ”
From this Scripture we learn that God’s Covenant with Abraham would be for all generations of their descendants and it it it would would would be be everlasting
(Genesis 17:7) it it it would would would be be fruitful and and would would would would produce kings and and nations (Genesis 17:6) it it would would include a a a a a a a a Promised Land as as an an an everlasting
possession (Genesis 17:8) and and and He promised to to be their God God and and if these promises to to Abraham weren’t wonderful enough God God also promised it would would be through Abraham’s seed that that a a a a a a a a a a Messiah would would would come to Israel and that that the the blessing of Abraham would would also come upon the the Gentiles through faith in Him (Galatians 3:14-16) The New Testament reaffirms the promise promise made to Abraham adding that God sealed the the the promise promise by by swearing by by the the the highest authority in in the the the universe – Himself “For when God made a a a a a a promise to Abraham because He He could swear by by no one greater He He swore by by Himself saying “Surely blessing I will bless bless
